The Giant Race, San Francisco, Sunday August 23, 2015

F39, 10K, F35-39, Time: 00:54:14, Pace: 00:08:44, first half: 00:25:50, second half: 00:28:24, 25 out of 630

Early race in SF - started at 7am. Largest race I’ve been in - over 6,000 for the 10k and more than that for 5k and a half marathon too. Big crowd made for a crowded start so they had a few different corrals.

But I still managed to run the first half much quicker than the second. Definitely could have used more training but was having a hard time getting 3 runs in a week - maybe did just one or two runs a week and missed some runs because of a wedding out of town.

It was motivating to be with a crowd, my music was good, and it was fun to run with Daniel, even though he was in another corral. I really wanted to pick up the pace in my last mile but just couldn’t and could feel a cramp coming on. I did sprint it in and felt like I should’ve just upped my pace consistently during the second half.

Daniel suggested I get closer to the front of the pack and I think that is a good way to stay motivated. I was counting people I passed, but then in the last mile started getting passed a lot where I was going into negative numbers. But all in all a fun race - cool to smell sourdough bread baking early in the morning and finish at the stadium.
